This is the question I get asked more than almost any other, usually phrased as a mild panic: "We get there Saturday — do you have anything?" The honest answer is: sometimes yes, but if you want specific dates and times, plan ahead. Here's what the booking calendar actually looks like across the year.
Summer (June–August): Book 3–4 Weeks Out
Peak season on PCB is busy. The demand for golden hour sessions — both sunrise and sunset — is highest in summer, and the available slots per day are limited by the fact that there's only one golden hour on each end of the day. I do not do midday sessions in summer because the light is flat and harsh at the worst possible time of day.
In July, my preferred sunset slots (the 90 minutes before sunset) book up 3 to 4 weeks in advance. By the time you're packing your bags for your vacation, those dates are typically spoken for. If you have a summer trip planned, book your session when you book your lodging — not when you arrive.
Sunrise sessions in summer have slightly more flexibility because fewer families are willing to commit to a 5:30am alarm while on vacation. If your preferred sunset date is gone, consider whether a sunrise session might actually be a better fit for your group.
Spring Break (March–April): Book 6+ Weeks Out
Spring break is more compressed than summer, which makes it more competitive for dates. The popular spring break weeks — typically mid-March through early April — fill significantly faster than summer because the volume of visitors is concentrated into a shorter window.
If you're coming to PCB for spring break and want a specific evening during your trip, I recommend booking as soon as your travel dates are confirmed — which often means 6 to 8 weeks out, or even further in advance if you're booking a March trip in January.
The early spring period before the peak spring break rush (late February through early March) is generally easier to book on shorter notice and can be excellent photographically — the light in March is beautiful, the beaches are less crowded than summer, and the temperatures are comfortable.
Fall (September–November): The Sweet Spot
Fall is the most underrated time to visit PCB for photography, and it's the easiest time to book. September and October on the Emerald Coast are warm enough for beach sessions, the summer crowds have thinned considerably, and the light at golden hour is exceptional — often cleaner and more golden than summer because of lower humidity.
In fall, I can often accommodate 1–2 weeks notice for most dates, and occasionally even shorter. If you're flexible on travel dates, a late September or October PCB trip gives you the best combination of weather, beach quality, and photography availability.
Hurricane season is a factor from June through November, with peak activity in September. Florida weather is variable regardless of season, and I have a rescheduling policy for weather that genuinely prevents a session. A light overcast is often actually ideal for photography — it softens the light. A thunderstorm is not.
Winter (December–February): Book 1–2 Weeks Out
The off-season is the easiest time to book, and winter sessions can be beautiful. The beach is nearly empty, the light is low and directional even in midday, and the cooler temperatures are genuinely comfortable for an active outdoor session. Golden hour in December happens around 5pm rather than 8pm, which is logistically easier for families.
The main consideration is temperature. January and February in PCB average highs in the low 60s. That's comfortable for activity but may be cool for light summer outfits. Most winter sessions work well with layered, casual-warm clothing rather than the flowing linen that looks beautiful in summer.
How to Secure Your Date
The booking process is straightforward. Fill out the booking form with your preferred dates and whether you want sunrise or sunset. I'll confirm availability within 24 hours. A deposit secures your slot — without it, dates remain open to other inquiries.
If your preferred date isn't available, I'll tell you what's open closest to it. If you have flexibility in your trip, I'll tell you which date in your window has the best photographic conditions — sometimes a Tuesday has better light forecast than Saturday, and if you don't have a fixed constraint, it's worth knowing.
The bottom line: whenever you're reading this, book sooner than feels necessary. The families who are disappointed are almost always the ones who waited until they arrived.
